After initially stumbling upon the frame in an antique shop, Stephan was inspired to create a work small enough to fit within it. He saw the project as an opportunity to challenge himself by including as much detail and complexity in the scene as he could. In order to achieve this affect, Stephan worked with microneedle brushes. Stephan chose a scene of Jesus Christ walking on water. The great significance and drama of the scene also presented a challenge, as it necessitated close attention to detail.
