"Lene Bennikes work explores the interaction of light and space in landscape and urban environments.
By tapping into photopolymer gravure she transforms her own photographs into narratives by means of monoprint, chine coll, text, dremel and papers in a folded, stitched or knitted version. It all depends on the message she wishes to convey.
Bennikes work Nocturnal Notes, is an ongoing project begun 2016, exploring 'notes on waiting, notes on absence, notes on silence, notes on light and darkness'. A black and white narrative, in lush tones and texture, reflecting the passage of time.
Her artistic pursuit is based upon 17 years of close cooperation with Copenhagen printmaker artist, Bjarne Agerbo, Atelier Agerbo, the Graphic Experimentarium, Copenhagen, several artist residencies and ICP, International Center of Photography in NYC.
She has exhibited since 1997 in independent shows and in larger juried, curated exhibitions in Denmark and abroad like the Rohsska Museum, Gothenburg 2006, International Print Triennial Society, Krakow 2012, the Luciano Benetton Collection 2015, International Artistbook Triennial Vilnius 2018.
Her work is in museums, institutional art collections and private collections. She holds a membership of the Danish Printmakers Association and the Danish Visual Artists Association."
