"Thomas WH Comptons practice as an illustrator and printmaker is defined by the approach he takes in rendering his printed works. Working between analogue and digital methods, this approach is one that considers the purposeful and contextual use of printing technique, materiality consideration and deliberation of image form to create work that embodies a conscientious expression of his chosen subject. Recent created works have been made in response to the topical subjects within the genre of British Folklore, covering myth and legend, heritage crafts and folk festivals. He is the author and creator of The De Chirico Horse; a semi-fictional narrative based upon a friendship Thomas great-grandfather had with the artist Giorgio de Chirico. Thomas intent for creating visual works that emanate a distinctively ethereal quality is to generate independent and introspective intrigue for a subject in the viewer. An interesting image concept for Thomas is one that successfully condenses a core of adept understanding in a subject and relays it to the audience."
