"Gabriella Bailey's new work in Drypoint turns on its head the contemporary trend for ironic and subversive approaches to art work with a heretical return to eternal and personal meaning. Searching for collective purpose in a society that has seemingly lost sight of a shared consciousness, and inspired by the great Jungian analyst, Gabriella refocuses her work to the mythical figure as seen today.
Drawing on the tradition of Blake and Collins and Nicholson, Gabriella sees Drypoint as an ideal vehicle for the direct expression of innermost thoughts and ideas. The sensitivity of the diamond tip scored into copper plate, unmediated and alone, is an unparalleled medium in this regard. The dense black line of ink on dampened paper is still unmatched by any other newer technology of its kind, and its power likewise undiminished.
