The Hospital at Ningpo was founded by Daniel J. Macgowan, a missionary and physician from Massachusetts. This report paints a vivid picture of life in the Ningbo Hospital and the numbers of patients with various illnesses. This report also includes an account of the ongoing efforts to improve medical education in China. It shows the importance of Protestant missionaries in the dissemination of modern Western medicine in China in the nineteenth century.
