My project is based on the theme “Character Design and Illustration”. I used gouache paint on 42 x
22cm 300gsm watercolour paper. I wanted to convey a calm and tranquil feeling through my final
piece, so I used relaxing colours (sky blue, pale pink) and lots of flowers (blossom, daffodils) to
achieve this. I used the character design to reflect the calm feeling of the background by making her
pose seem relaxed, the draping material used for her clothes also adds to this. I have really enjoyed
this project and it has helped me improve my background design - which helps me convey more
meaning in my character illustrations
