Level 2 Art and Design

: My final piece is mixed media, using paint, printing, photography and crochet. I chose these combinations to represent how I felt and needing to take care of nature and wrap
it up. However my photos became my sketchbook and I wanted to use more photography in the artwork than I meant to. The mixed media gave me the chance to be colourful and
playful but still deal with complex issues.
There were several artist that influenced my ideas, the crochet artists create colourful work but I wanted to create different art to them and mine isn’t as technically adventurous as
theirs. I did enjoy the decay and sense of time from Andy Goldsworthy so I deliberately left the printing process errors become part of the work and I think the extra graffiti layers help
give a time and layering to the piece.
Overall I think it is a positive reflection of my inner thoughts. I love the bold green outline I think it creates a really unique look to the piece however upon reflection I would have applied
another layer of acrylic to properly help it pop. I like the effect of all of my photography layered in a sort of collage although it would have been more effective if I had had the time to use
a better printer. My crochet definitely adds to the piece though it would have been interesting to have perhaps hung it up in front of the canvas to create a sort of illusion. Also, the use
of paint layered on top in the style of graffiti mimics my idea but doesn’t fully fulfil it and if I were to do this project again I would definitely opt for real spray paint.
Overall I’m happy with my final work and now have a good idea of how to refine my work in future .
