"Fabiola Vizcardo is a visual artist, art educator, and art therapist from Peru. After earning her bachelor's degree in fine arts from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru in 2009, she specialized in printmaking. She participated in solo and group shows and dedicated some years to curating a small art gallery in Lima. She entered the educational world to explore her passion for teaching, child development, and emotional development. She has been an art teacher for over 5 years, and when the pandemic hit, she realized she could help her students cope with isolation through art. She pursued a diploma in Art therapy, and since then, she has applied concepts of education and art therapy in her artistic exploration. Fabiola is studying for an M.Ed. in Art Education at UBC, focusing on human development, Indigenous visual culture, and art as a search method.
STATEMENT: ""When I arrived in Vancouver in 2022, I fell in love with colour again, thriving to explore new mediums. Black and white woodblock printing has been my passion, but being an immigrant altered the lens through which I see the world, and colours of joy and hope fill my life again.
Walking was the best way to connect with this new Land and a great source of creativity, playfulness and experimentation. Discovering this Land is finding myself here, and the urge to express my true self finds its way by peeling off layers and creating new ones. Watercolour, Acrylic, and Relief printing are some mediums I explored to represent and extend these layers of emotions.
