Alphabetum Tibetanum was the first large-scale compendium of Tibet’s language, religion and geography published in Europe. In addition to the basic description of the Tibetan language and its script, the author inserts the Tibetan language and Tibet’s particular brand of Buddhism into a sprawling comparative panorama, linking it to developments across Eurasia from antiquity to his own day.
