Charcoal and Pastel on Paper

3rd Place 2023 Assyrian International Art Competition

"In this piece, I wanted to capture the relentless and undying passion of the Assyrian people have for their culture, history, and future. Although we’ve been without a nation to call home for thousands of years, we remain as united and hopeful about our identity and place in the modern world as ever. Using charcoal pastel, and a gold ink, I depicted a lioness as us Assyrians, being hunted. Though lions are typically hunters, they are shown as the prey here. Despite this, she is determined to remove the arrow and continue her fight."
