Feast of the Jungle , 2023

Survival in the jungle is akin to the process of painting; abstract shapes and vibrant colors bring together one ecosystem, sustaining while feasting on each other. Bold colors swallow and cover the dullness of the atmosphere, yet while being accentuated by the contrasting features. Gouache was used in this work because its wide range of color allowed expression of different expressions, dynamics, and organisms. This piece serves to represent the nature of survival and how humanity can survive only while being sustained by other organisms and the ecosystem. It also references to the story of the Garden of Eden in the Bible, where the serpent convinces Adam to sin against God, and God responds by stating that man will crush the serpent's head, but the serpent will strike man's heel. Although humanity is seen as the true king of the jungle, one may die from just a small poisonous snake, presenting a kind of irony that is shown in the artwork, where the man is about to eat the lion, but the snake coming out is about to bite him. I hope the viewers can see the admiration of beauty and savagery of nature and the importance of mankind and nature sustaining each other.
