My art essentially explores the question: what does passion look like? My paintings use the physical portrayal of the human figure to express a mental state of mind--passion.
Past world travel experiences, memories of dance and musical performances, and even every day events trigger inspirations for my paintings. The awe we feel when we witness live performances is created by the immense passion and hard work of the performers; it inspires me to capture the feeling with vibrant color, tone and texture.
I paint intuitively and use color emotionally. I use acrylic paint, and often add collage, as it allows me to work fast. I layer the paint with brushes, my hands, pallet knives or any other objects that produce the desired marks. The compositions are often a combination of several images, preliminary sketches and memories. Movement and energy are an important part of the performing arts and therefore are central to my art.
