I paint to explore discordant stories within myself and all of us. I'm curious how our desire for certainty, for a narrative, impacts the way we see ourselves, each other, and reality. I'm trying to figure out how multiple contradicting stories can exist and overlap. My artwork is the residue and record of that process.

My practice is informed by my remembered history and the stories I was led to believe. A late awareness of my sexual orientation and my journey with depression have taught me to be humble about what I think I know to be true.

My paintings and mixed media works incorporate shapes with missing or masked details. I present recognizable symbols of the everyday that are altered, out of place, or built of unexpected materials. In this way the viewer is forced to supply details drawn from their own memory. I want to start a conversation that recognizes the fragility of what we think we know while fostering an appreciation of the beauty of things just beyond our understanding.
