After the Civil War ended, many African-American churches flourished including Shiloh Baptist Church at Brandy Station, Virginia where my grandfather Rev. JJ Jackson was an early pastor. He is mentioned in the website Journey Through Hallowed Ground:

“Still in use today, it is the oldest surviving black church in Culpeper. The next two pastors, James C. Colbert and John J. Jackson, were born and raised in Culpeper and were both known for their kindness and integrity.” -
