The Transborder Experience and
Four Doors: A Self Portrait
The places I've inhabited in my life mean a lot to me. Architecture and the built environment can be largely tied to memories, especially structures that have served as home for you for your entire life. Residences are pinpoints, home bases, across the world as you continue to grow in new places.
They serve as a physical shrine to where you were in life when you lived there, and can take you back to that place mentally just by stepping into the space. Homes are extensions of yourself, and you leave your mark on them literally and figuratively.
I've modeled four different front doors that have in some way impacted me, either in the form of me inhabiting the space they enclose, or someone close to me inhabiting them. These doors are from all over the country, showing the journey that my loved ones and I have taken to get me to where I am today. The doors have been placed around Alumni Hall, the Dept. of Architecture and Interior Design at Miami University.
