I am a sculptor/builder that lives and works in the highlands of West Virginia. I make sculptures from ordinary building materials. It has been my experience that the significance (and magnificence) of ‘stuff’ is directly related to the level of my own intentional engagement. I look to facilitate that engagement in others, and continue to glean personal insight and cultural meaning from the re-contextualization of these simple materials. Often the most commonplace can be re-seen and re-imagined by all of us through physical manipulation and a shift of context. When I deploy figure and human form in my work, it is typically in the interest of exploring relationships. The relationship of resources, turned to commodities, and used to our benefit as consumers is often suggested. So often the slightest turn of attention will lead us to a place where we are contemplating.
