I am a conceptual media artist who works with video-based art, creative writing, net art and installations. My practice focuses on unfolding our relationship with the environment and culture from technological thinking, exploring the extension meanings and potential from them in course of history. As deeply influenced by Eastern philosophy, I create artworks by combining Eastern spiritual thinking with rational Western research-based methods. Conceptual completeness and self-consistency are important in my creations. Drawing by I-Ching, cultivation and other Eastern philosophy, I am concerned with the interconnectedness of all things and their connection to our inner experiences. As I believe everything has something in common, I prefer to use cultural understanding of Eastern symbols more than visuality in my creations. Most of my works include virtuality presented in media to convey the spiritual expression of the immaterial world. I am always thinking about the spiritual core and the flow of energy between objects and living things. As such, the act of perceiving the objects around me is important to my creative process. Doing so allows me to strengthen my connection to the physical world in a digital era. I regard each of my creations as the extractant and externalization of ideas, a part of the process leading to “Dao”. In China, tea art can be a way to achieve “Dao”, as martial arts and Chinese medicine can so. As such I hope to get “Dao” through media art. As a new generation of practitioners (修行人), my goal is to express my understanding and experience on the path of cultivation through art and technology. I hope to seek potential from real life and the virtual world, to create new meaning from history, and present the future through the ideas of the past.
