In the artist's own words: "My self-portrait painting ”Cursed Gravity" represents the tired, energy-draining world of lockdown. In the center a ghostly version of my face drowning in a river, almost as if it had been violently pushed and smashed into the water. Its reflection in opposite colors alludes to Yin and Yang, and represents the memory (reflection) of my balanced part, which is still there buried underwater waiting to come to life. Both faces crying into each other's eyes suggest loneliness. The shape of the lake recalls the shape of England, a place of imprisonment, as borders are closed. Long, straight trees without branches almost act as bars in a prison. There are 4 hands, two ghostly hands with palms facing the viewer, indicating the desire for contact and two golden hands representing the most bearable days. The two golden hands fight each other as they try to grab one of the metal balls in which it is possible to see images of the future. The spheres are 7 like the 7 days of the week and almost follow the shape of a circle to indicate the endless repetition of time. Each sphere behaves differently: some go with the flow, 1 tries to absorb the golden light by releasing its poisonous liquid, 1 is burning, and the last is half-covered in the previous day's smoke. The forest, a symbol of mystery and contradictions, is the stage of this silent act, which is repeated every day as if a cursed gravity was directing everything, with no aucidence. You wake up, try to hold on to the light and you suddenly drown. You sink, you sleep, and everything repeats..."
