ARTIST STATEMENT

There is a tension between the overtly celebratory, joyous aspects of my landscape paintings and darker narratives that I’m thinking about when I make the work. Colour acts as a device for enticement and the lush, botanical elements convey a sense of freedom and otherworldliness. The places I depict are often overgrown wildernesses and representing abandonment, the potential for entrapment and the power of nature. Our changing climate, perceptions of beauty and idealised memories, forms that relate to the body and life cycles – these are all underlying themes that I explore through the motifs of my visual language.
