Early on during the COVID-19 pandemic, teddy bears started to appear in people’s windows, both in Australia and around the world. Inspired by the picture book “We’re going on a bear hunt,” written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, the bears were intended to boost the spirits of children at a time when much had been taken away from them.
To me, this small gesture became a poignant symbol of kindness countering the panic buying, chaos and upheaval of this unprecedented moment in time.
