Every brewery in Milwaukee administered their own beer production, barreling, storage, transportation, delivery, bottling, labeling, and advertising. Two workers shown here unload empty kegs from a delivery truck onto a conveyor belt at the Schlitz complex. Both railroad workers and employees at the brewing factories worked long, physically demanding days. At the time Abbey made his photographs, the typical workday on the railroad was as much as sixteen hours. Abbey-01-083-008
