The artist has been fond of listening to classical music for over twenty years. He likes classical symphonies mostly, of which his favourite symphony composer is Mahler. Mahler has expressed that his works include "the whole world"; thus the "contradictory world image" displayed by Mahler's symphony, has inspired Chan in the creation of his Mahler Symphony series in recent years.
