Pearl
100 x 80 x 2 cm (h x w x d)
Oil on canvas

“Pearl” is an artwork that celebrates beauty, sensuality and hedonism, while alluding to Roman mythology and paying homage to “The Birth of Venus” by Boticelli. The figure’s strained body language and ambiguous natural surrounding channel underlying tension and mystique. Expressive brushstrokes, bold contours and color-scheme of saturated colors and contrasting values reference Expressionism, in particular “Venus in the Grotto” by Koloman Moser.
