When I was just a little girl, my mom would have my abuelita take care of me when she was at work. My abuelita would take me to run errands with her all around town in South Gate and Cudahy. One day she took me to the market and I couldn’t help but notice all of the Dia de los Muertos stuff that surrounded the market. I was instantly attached to a beautiful Virgin Mary carrying a baby Jesus sculpture, wearing a traditional muertos mask. Every time I think of Dia de los Muertos I think of that beautiful sculpture. This inspired me to create my very own Virgin Mary x Dia de los Muertos artwork.
