Bomb

[AC003]

I received a phone call from the Shropshire Star newsdesk telling me to get over to Mid Wales quickly because some bombs had been discovered. This is where my inexperience paid off as the edition editor expected a picture of the World War 2 bottle bombs being blown up in the corner of the field.

What I wanted was a bomb disposal expert with the explosives. I came to an agreement with the soldiers that I would send them images if they let me come closer. The deal was done and I shot this image of one of the experts preparing the 'bottle bombs' for detonation.

Taken in the early 1990's, I will never forget the shock on the news editor’s face as I handed him this image. He expected me to stand the other end of the field and photograph a puff of smoke!
