"Roaming the Maine coast, I was drawn to a large boulder, impressed by the complexity of its surface — it was a landscape all by itself. So I made a closely cropped image to emphasize the boulder's textures and tones. Now I'm thinking about how our lives are so closely cropped these days within narrow borders — yet are still rich landscapes."
