Im Jahre 2010 auf einer Reise durch Schottland sahen wir zweimal auf einer Weide Postautogelbe Schafe. Was soll das? Ich fragte einen Museumswärter, ob in Schottland nun bunte Schafe gezüchtet werden, damit man die Wolle nicht mehr färben muss. Er lachte nur und sagte, dass diese Schafe krank waren und gebadet werden mussten. Das schien mir plausibel, müssen doch bei uns die Schafe jedes Jahr ins Schafräudebad. Dieses Thema ließ mich nie mehr los. Als ich das Foto mit dem Schaf in 50pictures fand, war mir klar: diese Geschichte einfach weiterspinnen und denken wie es aussehen könnte, wenn meine Vermutung gestimmt hätte. Darum mein Bild mit den bunten Schafen und Wollknäueln.

Inzwischen habe ich gegoogelt und dort gelesen, dass sie Schafe gelb und orange färben, damit weniger Schafe gestohlen werden. Ob das die richtige Antwort ist, weiß ich nicht, aber es wäre auch logisch.

Sheep

In 2010 during a trip through Scotland, we saw yellow sheep twice. What was that? I asked a guy in a museum whether they now breed multicoloured sheep in Scotland so that wool need not be dyed anymore. He only laughed and told me that the sheep had been sick and had to be bathed. I thought this sounded plausible since the sheep where I live have to be bathed once a year, too. I have been thinking about this ever since. When I saw the picture with the sheep in 50pictures, I knew that I had to go on spinning this story - what would be the situation if my surmise had been correct. The result is my picture with the multicoloured sheep and the balls of yarn. In the meantime I have done some research. Apparently sheep are dyed yellow and orange so that fewer sheep are stolen. Whether this is the correct answer, I don't know, but it would be logical, too.
