Although flatly rendered, the compartmentalised composition and abstract shadowing in this piece by Christopher Philby affords the work a certain depth.

Christopher Philbey is an emerging artist at Arts Project Australia who works greylead and coloured pencil as well as felt tip and ballpoint pen. He is a skilled draughtsman whose work often employs a combination of text and image. He frequently uses popular culture and animals as reference material, successfully employing the use of line to block in large areas as well as to delineate his animals and figures. Recently, he has been collaborating with studio peer Jamie Dawes on a sizeable elongated panel drawing with multiple panels, that features wildlife, meerkats and other animals.
