Grandma Hatton and Little Ora , ca. 1946
9.6 x 9 in (h x w)
Charcoal on wove paper

Hatton frequently depicted family members in her art, making sketches and oil portraits that she gifted to each child in the Hatton family. This endearing drawing depicts Hatton's niece, Ora Hatton Shay (known then as "Little Ora" to distinguish her from "Big Ora," the artist's sister), peeling apples with Hatton's mother, Apollonia, who lived with the artist while she was teaching at CSU. Living in Golden, Colorado, Little Ora and her family frequently visited her aunt and grandmother in Fort Collins. After Hatton's death, Ora worked to recover her aunt's oeuvre, and her collection is the basis for much of this exhibition.
