Grief – “This series explores the battle between the various emotions that arise during the process of grieving and attempts at controlling the mess. Some people ‘win’ this battle by completely burying their grief, achieving control but losing touch with themselves. Others fall apart while their pain burns like a wildfire. Control isn’t much of a triumph, but acceptance might be. After losing my parents some years ago I started observing my emotions to try to understand what was going on. I found grief to be very different to what I had expected, a lot more complex than just feeling sad. I felt very scared, fragile and untethered, like I had lost my protective walls and anchors. Grief felt like something I was carrying around with me, always present but not always visible. The series was made in December 2019 and January 2020. Long exposure photography and light painting.”
