I use photography to explore masculinity and what it means to be sensitive and vulnerable as a male.
As I create images, I draw inspiration from events that would attempt to define masculinity for me. My desire to understand these cultural expectations of manhood stem from personal events both past and present. Now, I attempt to discern its potential impact on my future.
These traditional expectations of male adulthood are more obvious to me as the years pass and make me ask “Am I being pushed around and goaded into being what a man should be?”
I use my camera to explore my relationship with myself and with these cultural expectations. My questions come with me wherever I go. I search for mood and light, and marvel at how the sense of place can awaken my subconscious. Where words fail, my camera helps me understand.
