"Hemispheres" is the wildly popular United Airlines magazine. Each month, two million people read it on United flights. When the art director reached out to me about creating the April 2002 cover, the industry—and the nation—was reeling from the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. We agreed on an abstract design that was light, colorful, and lyrical to help brighten the travel experience during a tragic time.
