Boyle Heights, CA

Growing up within the community of Boyle Heights, “Dia de los Muertos" is the day we use to take back and celebrate the life and death of our loved ones. “Three stages of life” reflects birth, performance and death along with the idea that death is not a stage of life that should be seen as a painful one full of sorrow and agony, but rather full of special memories that takes us back and honor those who are no longer with us. As celebrated in my community with alters, music and color, “Three stages of life” reflects “Dia de los Muertos” with a Mariachi Calavera singer looking back at the performer smiling remembering life through its present stage of death.
