Für mich ist der Schwiergermutterstuhl DER Kaktus unter allen Kakteen. Damit war klar, dass er mein Motiv für dieses Foto werden würde. Ich wollte einen Wholecloth machen und das ist das Ergebnis. Die "Täler" habe ich mit mehreren verschiedenen grünen Garnen gequilted. Die Dornen sind mit Hilfe von verknoteten kurzen Fadenstücken entstanden. Die verknoteten Fäden gehen nicht ganz durch das Quiltsandwich durch, sondern sitzen quasi auf dem Top. Damit entsteht eine gewisse Dreidimensionalität.

Der Hintergrund ist mit einem Muster gequiltet, das die Dornennester noch einmal aufnimmt.

Insgesamt bin ich recht zufrieden mitdem Ergebnis, obwohl mein Schwiegermutterstuhl einem Kürbis schon sehr ähnelt...

Mother in-law's cushion

For me, the mother in-law's cushion is the epitome of all cacti. So it was clear that this would be my motif for this photo. I wanted to make a wholecloth quilt and this is what I have come up with. The "valleys" are quilted with several different dark green threads and the thorns are expressed by knotting short pieces of quilting thread. The knotted threads do not go through to the back and sit more or less on the top of the quilt. This creates a 3D effect.

The background is quilted with a pattern which takes up the thorn nests.

All in all, I am quite pleased with the outcome although my mother in-law's cushion resembles more a pumpkin than a cactus...
