In the words of the artist: "My journey as an artist has not been linear. I received her Art & Design degree from Columbia College, Chicago in 2013. Originally from the Midwest, I've spent the last 7 years reveling in the natural world and wonders that California has to offer. My travels across the globe have powerfully influenced and informed me as an artist. The unique experiences and cultures I've encountered on my travels serve as endless source of inspiration and learning for my work. I enjoy using an array of mediums, with a focus on painting. I am currently focused on creating work that speaks to the deep connection between BIPOC and nature while tapping into sacred, ancestral medicine. I have a keen awareness that historically, there has been an exclusionary relationship between rural and urban communities, with nature-oriented activities, and park systems themselves. I explore the reconnection of BIPOC with the natural world while honoring ancient traditions and concepts such as animal medicine. Working with mostly acrylic paint on wood, I paint black and brown figures in communion with nature in a manner that symbolizes spiritual awakening and evokes ancestral healing practices. Many of the images I conjure up are born from my ongoing meditation practice and personal, reverent relationship with Mother Earth."
