These on-site, plein air paintings of the way up on to the hill fort are the origins of the circular Nova paintings. Using a minimal pallet and focussing on light, dark and structure each study is an attempt to observe the place and focus on the flow and pattern. Key to the composition is the circular light portal at the end of the tunnel balanced by the light pouring through gaps in the branches.
