A sense of foreboding fills the air as the sky turns to fiery red and orange. A nuclear bomb has just exploded in the distance, forming a mushroom cloud whose presence reveals the shadow side of human activity. The ultimate force has been unleashed, sending shockwaves and massive clouds tearing through anything in their path. The natural landscape we see up close is about to be enveloped by that massive energy release, an unconsidered casualty. Though the threat of destruction is always present, we can only hope that human community and intelligence — modeled at least in part after mycelial networks — will reverse the trend of destruction into one of creation.
