Bittersweet , 2021
14 x 11 in (h x w)
Acrylics on canvas

Having a bad state of mind can change the way you see a lot of things. This painting means a lot to me because it has to do with things in my past, ways I've changed, and things I am trying to do or be. The “sweet” side represents love in all shapes and forms (heart and rainbow flag), body positivity (shoulders), support and growth (hugging people painted to look tree-like) and connection no matter how different two people or groups are (butterfly). On the “bitter” side, it represents positive things getting blocked and covered in your head by how loud negative things can be (cloud), the effect of a bad state of mind takes on communication (divided people), the pause life seems to take with a bad mindset and the stopping of growth (dead tree) and the constant feeling that time is running out when you aren't in a good place (hourglass). I have changed a lot over the past couple years, and it has really good for me. I have been trying my best to love myself for who I am and continue looking for the good things in life even when things get difficult.
