Identity is one topic that I will forever explore in my work. When making "The Seven Sins and Virtue Facing Judgement", I thought about telling the story of my life. When thinking about life and death, and correlating it with Da Vinci's Last Supper painting, all that remained in my mind was the parable of when Jesus announced that the one who would betray him, Judas, was sitting amongst him and his most devoted 11 disciples. In a play-on with the parable, I wondered, "When I die, who will speak for me before I will be decided to spend eternity in Heaven or in Hell?" The idea dawned to dig even deeper and reflect on the storyline as if my representative for myself would be outnumbered, considering that in Christian belief that we are all born sinners. The Seven Sins of Pride, Wrath, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, and Sloth would sit at the table to be witnesses to my life and showcase how I possessed them in various balances in front of a Judge (who is the viewer). The sole representative for all my good behavior would be a sole Virtue, as a way to contradict and scrutinize against my belief that in this world we are innocent until proven guilty.

By allowing the viewer to be the Judge, I also excise the fact that Black people but specifically Black women overall are immediately judged in numerous ways based on which characteristic sin they possess. Whether they are deemed "too sexual" and forever casted hyper-sexually or stuffed into the "Angry Black woman" trope amongst the other Deadly sins, "The Seven Sins and Virtue Facing Judgment" allows for the viewer to decide what they want to see, who they want to believe, and which side of judgment receives the final call.
