Artist Statement
My placenta was likely at the root of the life threatening pregnancy complications (pre-eclampsia) which were overlooked for several weeks by my care team in 2018. I learned during our emergency c-section that it had also abrupted (partially detached) at some point in the previous week, but this had not been detected during my daily bloodwork and ultrasounds.

Biography
Rachel Gilbert is a Senior Program Lead at Healthcare Excellence Canada. After spending 15 years working to improve patient safety as a human factors specialist, she experienced her own series of adverse events related to her second pregnancy and delivery.
