The idea for this work of art came to glass artist Dieter Heinze during a walk with his wife along the Lech River near Landsberg. On a large plaque near the Penzing air base was written that the legendary country singer Johnny Cash had spent his military service here. The musician, who was still unknown at the time, spent three years serving in a special unit of the U.S. Air Force in Bavaria. It was here, by the way, that Cash bought his first guitar and learned to play it. The work "Ring of Fire" by glass artist Dieter Heinze is thus a tribute to the musician he is passionate about. Music is a perennial source of inspiration for the artist. It helps him find the perfect blend of minimalist abstract and figurative elements in his glass artworks. So it's no surprise that at the heart of the sculpture spins an original record from 1963, the year Cash recorded the song "Ring of Fire," memorializing his love for June Carter, his future wife.
