Private charity foundations in the United States have a shameful history of scamming the public out of millions of dollars to fund private endeavors and self-serving missions. Legally, these foundations are only required to give away a minimum of 5% of their assets each year. The Kids Wish Network, who claim to raise money to improve quality of life for sick kids, are giving away even less! Millions of dollars donated to their endearing mission are instead lining the pockets of the CEO. Of the $18.6 million dollars raised in 2012, only 0.012% was put towards helping grant kids wishes. Our piggybank is a glimpse into the reality of donating money to these large private monsters.
The brokenness of the pig is an ode to the lack of transparency within these organizations. Piggy banks are seen as protective and as dream builders, whereas our piggy bank is corrupt and broken. Rather than representing wealth and hope, our piggybank portrays the greed fueling large private foundations.
