Beast

‘I’ve got some photographs I won’t let anyone see, err, because I don't look like myself. My face looks too bloated. Rose’. 73.

(Liddle J, Bartlam R, Mallen CD, et al)

A depiction of poor self-image created by years of bullying at school, where I was nicknamed “Beast”
and verbally tortured to point where I turned to self-harm to cope. The result has been a struggle
with self-image and confidence in myself most of my adult life alongside depression and social
anxiety.

The image was created by placing a photograph of myself behind clear glass vases and vessels filled
with water and taking further photographs of perceived shapes and images. These were then drawn
and coloured graphically in Procreate and edited in Adobe Photoshop.
