Nespresso states that their coffee pods are 100% recyclable, but how many are actually
recycled? Placed inside a Nespresso shop, the company incentivizes customers to bring back
their used pods to recycle them. Only 1 out of 5 are stated to be recycled, but even then,
there is uncertainty on whether it’s properly done. The pods placed in recycling bins can get lost in the process and end up in nature or landfills.
Nespreshoot transforms recycling into a game, similar to one you could find in a funfair,
inviting the player to act for the planet. By throwing a pod as you would throw a ball, we
question whether recycling is perceived seriously. The first game exposes that a pod placed in a recycling bin isn’t actually guaranteed to be recycled in the end. In the second game, the act of shooting and destroying a tower of coffee cups illustrates how much damage even small bits of waste can create when accumulated.
