Startup Nation Memorial The Inexistent Profit Organizations Crisis , 2019
200 x 100 cm (h x w)
Plexiglas pane, adhesive vinyl and steel chains

This piece of art denounces VC investors’ appetite for growth rather than for profitability. We are currently seeing extremely highly valued startups which go public (Initial Public Offering - IPO) despite being in deficit. Investors gain by trading the stakes in these companies and exiting their investment early through an IPO rather than from the returns generated by the startups. As the trend intensifies, the risk of a financing bubble increases, which will, as it bursts, extinguish most of the overhyped tech unicorns. The explosion outlines the devastating consequences of irrational and unsustainable investor behavior.
The “death victims” of the imminent crisis are listed on the memorial. Initial Public Offering (IPO) = Entrée en bourse
