Friedrich’s artwork was usually inspired by his traumatic childhood and/ or his flight from Nazi Austria and the holocaust, and his loss of family and friends. He was absolutely fascinated by faces. In one of his very many poems, he wrote: Looking at a face I can see through space.The road it had to race
