Ann Norfield’s work reflects the barely seen and scarcely noticed, a record of fragility and precariousness.

Happy to engage with a range of materials and processes, she uses imagery to bring lost and forgotten moments back into the physical world. The work shown here is all in the form of etching, the metal plates paradoxically providing durability and longevity for the precariousness they portray.

These prints have all been made during the past year, each relating to the effects of the pandemic in their own way. The most intense periods of lockdown were permeated with an air of fragility whether close to home or further afield and this is reflected in the imagery made by Norfield over that time.

Graduating from Camberwell College of Art in 2003 with an MA in Fine Art Printmaking, she helped to set up East London Printmakers Studio. She still teaches there and has written the book Etching - an Artist’s Guide, published by Crowood Press.

She has exhibited widely and her work is held in private and public collections, including the University of Leicester, the Fairy Tale Museum and Brothers Grimm Museum in Germany and the V & A.
