This pendant is made by Jeanette Lee, a Vancouver-based artist who came of age in the 1970s. Chinese coins inspired the design of the pendant. According to Jeanette, her grandfather brought Chinese coins from China a hundred and twenty years ago. She discovered these coins when her father closed the family business. Jeanette then made lapel pins that resembled the coins and gave them to family members to remember their Chinese heritage. Her ninety-four-year-old uncle wore the lapel pin to represent his Chinese identity and activate the idea of “carrying the home with him”. Jeanette states that jewelry is the biggest expression of Asian influence in her life.
