Forgotten
42 x 59.4 cm (h x w)
Ink on rice paper
The layered ink moving from lighter to darker shades combined with the non finito effect creates a dynamic sea which is in contrast to the still and serene mountains, connoting the different longings towards unknown landscapes. The composition and focus on the sea is strongly influenced by Hokusai and by Tani Buncho's "Eight views of the Xiao and Xiang rivers". Simultaneously, the black and white indicates how melancholy is based on past and forgotten longings rather than future bound.
