antmill
42 x 59.4 cm (h x w)
Pen on Paper

The initial inspiration for this project was Peter Kogler's ant artworks. My study on patterns and swarm behavior strongly shaped the compositional choices in this work. Ants can misinterpret the odors they navigate by and it can occur that an entire colony of ants moves into an infinite spiral eventually causing a “mass suicide”. This deadly yet beautiful phenomenon was the key inspiration and is the piece’s name. The infinity of a circle is communicated through these incredible insects.
